Morristown is a city in Tennessee, United States. The population was 24,965 at the 2000 census. It is the principal city of the Morristown, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Grainger, Hamblen and Jefferson counties. It is the county seat of Hamblen CountyGR6. In the 2000s, large numbers of Hispanic immigrants, including many illegal immigrants, settled in Morristown. The story of the conflict between the immigrants and the locals was documented by Kim Cobb in a 2006 Houston Chronicle article [1]. As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 24,965 people, 10,270 households, and 6,531 families residing in the city. The population density was 461.2/km (1,194.7/mi). There were 11,036 housing units at an average density of 203.9/km (528.1/mi). The racial makeup of the city was 83.73% White, 7.49% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 6.31% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.43% of the population.
